Circumcision Of Christ by Travis Bryan III

January 7, 2012 todd tomasella Travis Bryan III

The circumcision of Christ was and is a universal stripping.  By His death and resurrection, the old things were stripped off, buried and put away.  By “old things,” I mean the old man, the old self, the flesh, Satan’s, and his angelic and demonic powers’ control of the world, the “spirit of the world,” the kingdom of darkness, the curse of the Mosaic Law (Gal 3:10-13) and all other old things which i can’t think of right now.

In whom, also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the CIRCUMCISION OF CHRIST: buried with Him in baptism (in Spirit, not water), wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the OPERATION OF GOD, who hath raised Him from the dead.  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting in ordinances (the Mosaic Law) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; and having spoiled (stripped off and put away from Himself) principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it (in the cross).  Col 2:11-15.

Jesus was born and lived under all these old things in order to take the full force of them onto (even into) Himself at Calvary and then have them stripped off, put away from Himself and buried at Calvary.  As a result, the old things are gone.  2 Cor 5:17.  He became sin and became the curse of the law in order that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.  2 Cor 5:21; Gal 3:10-13.  He exchanges with us the old things for the new things.

Therefore if any man be in in Christ, he is a new creature: OLD THINGS are passed away; behold all THINGS ARE BECOME NEW.  2 Cor 5:17.

His resurrection brought into existence all the new things: the new man, the new covenant, the new law, the “law of Christ” (an obedience of love demonstrated by taking up the cross daily and dying to self and dying to the old things), a new power for living called “newness of life” by which we live thru resurrection power of Christ (Rom 6:5), the new “body of Christ,” an entirely new order or rule of life for the world called the kingdom of Christ.

This is a new realm where Satan, sin and death no longer reign but Christ is in control.  Sin no longer dominates.  It is a new reign of righteousness, peace and joy.  New things have come.  2 Cor 5:17.

Through faith, His and the believer’s, each person must come thru the same cross, tomb and the resurrection out of the old things into the new things.  Each person must be fully saved out of the old and into the new.  Each must “put off the old man” and “put on the new man.”. This must happen in and to all three parts of man, spirit first, then soul, then body.

That ye put off concerning the former conversation (manner of conducting your life) the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.  Eph 4:22-24.

In each part of us, thru the cross, the old nature is continually stripped away, buried, and the new is put on.  God lets Satan, his evil powers, the world, the law and fleshly people, do the stripping just like He did at the circumcision of Christ.  Basically, Satan is allowed to defeat or outstrip himself.  He strips us as he did Christ.  We experience repeatedly at his hands this same stripping process which Christ went thru.  The Holy Spirit does the work of sustaining you thru each phase of it and raising you over and over from the dead.  All things (especially the negative things) work together for this good.  Rom 8:28.  Our part is to be willing by faith to let this painful process happen in and around us.  We have faith in the “operation of God.”

In this way we continually take up the cross daily and follow Jesus by faith.  We are then revived and renewed (born again and again) over and over thru our willingness to participate in the sufferings and cross of Christ.  This is how we come to know Christ in relationship, by knowing Him in the power of His resurrection, sharing in His sufferings, and becoming more and more like Him in His dying, a death to self and to the power these old things hold over us.  Phili 3:10.

We always bear about in our body the dying process of Jesus administered to us by the Spirit.  We are always being delivered over to death administered to us by Satan and his evil workers.  2 Cor 4:10-11.

Our old man spirit was stripped off the day we first got saved.  Our old physical body will be put off the day we physically die.  In our old soul however the dying and rising is a daily event, a process.  The soul is where your personality is.  Your old mind, emotions and self-will must be daily circumcised or stripped off, buried and then recreated or renewed.  A new you in Christ must come forth.  This is where daily resurrection and renewal must repeatedly occur.  Rom 12:1-2.  We are thereby molded into the image of Christ.

In order for this transformation to take place, there must be complete submission, surrender and sacrifice on the believer’s part.  It is like surrendering to heart surgery and trusting a great physician to bring you thru it except you are awake, feeling the pain but not really aware of how it happens.  It is a mystery.  It can’t be done by human effort.  Gal 3:3.  It happens to us just like it did to Jesus, Job, Jacob, Peter and Paul.  We are turned over to Satan in order that the old things be destroyed, and the spirit, the new things, be saved and infused.  1 Cor 5:5.

Unbelievers are completely residing in the darkness of the old things.  Believers are caught in a tension between the old age things and the new age things.  1 Cor 10:11.  In our spirit and in the transformed part of our soul, we are in the new things.  But in our unrenewed soul part and in physical body we are still in the old.  We choose each day where to walk and live, in spirit (new) or in flesh (old).  These two realms oppose each other and keep you from doing “the THINGS that ye would.”
