Stooping and Lifting Us

“Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?” John 8:5

Notice here Jesus declines to follow Mosaic Law and immediately agree that the adulterous woman should be stoned to death.  He STOOPS DOWN instead.  He bends over and writes in the dust on the floor of the Temple.  I think He wrote the word “death” in direct answer to their question.  This was the true answer.  Someone would have to die for her sin.  But He would be the one to stoop down and die so she and we wouldn’t have to die.  Then he lifted himself up signifying his resurrection and ascension.

He stooped down a second time signifying His Holy Ghost which would come down to us after Calvary.  This time Jesus wrote the word “life” in the dust.  The letter of law gives “death” but the Spirit brings “life.”  2 Cor 3:6.  The legalists then filed out realizing they too deserved death.

We need life, the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.  Rom 8:2. The law cannot impart life.  Gal 3:21b.  Only the Spirit could impart into you the life of the ages.

Jesus then lifted Himself up a second time signifying the rapture of the Body of Christ up into heaven at the end of the church age.  He could then finally order the woman to “sin no more.”  The raptured bride of Christ will never again commit sin.

Philippians 2:6-9 shows us His stooping down.  V10-12 represents His lifting up.  Stooping and raising is God’s way of rescuing us.  We are the woman caught in adultery.  We are the dust in which He writes His story.  Death and life are the only way.  Dying and rising with Christ, not living by law.

Now Philippians 2:5 says we are to “let this mind”, this stooping down to help and lifting others up mindset, “be in you.”. Have you stooped to help anyone today?  Do you have this mind?

There is therefore now no more condemnation for all who are in Christ.  Rom 8:1.  Glory!  Glory!  Glory!
