Rejoice in The Joy of the Lord! by Stephen Michels
Recently, during my morning Bible reading time, I was meditating on the joy of the Lord, the second fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22), and contemplating why the world does not see this attitude displayed in more followers of Jesus. Do we remember that the battle starts in our own minds and hearts? We know that the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). As a believer, we can ask the question, has the enemy stolen my joy lately?
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled 2 Corinthians 4-6.
We must pick up our sword every morning when we arise and be prepared to fight. The Word of God is alive, powerful, mighty, and active. If we don’t start our day with this weapon, we enter the battle unarmed and become prime targets for the enemy and all of his schemes.
Do we recall the words of Paul written by the Holy Spirit regarding the fight of faith? Can we list the eight things that we should set our minds upon?
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things Philippians 4:8.
If we set our minds on these things, we will surely rejoice in what our Father has freely given us and fight the good fight of faith with JOY!
